Snow Day Numero One

SNOW DAY!!
As you can see it wasn't as much of a snow day as it was an ice day. I got the call not to go in about 5:30 am, and then after sleeping in until 9, here's what I did!

Set up baby boy's bedding in his crib.

Inside #2

I had to wash the sheet this morning, and while I was at it, I washed all of his clothes he's received so far. Now he has a clean place to sleep and clean clothes to wear!

I baked a chocolate chip pound cake for a friend who just had twins. I was going to take it to her tomorrow, but it may be later in the week.
Going in the oven.

While that cooked, I checked the mail with KC.

It was quick- way too cold out there.

I had a mid-afternoon snack of apples and peanut butter.

Then, it was time to take the pound cake out of the oven to let cool.

I also made Trey and I dinner (sorry, no pics), but it was panko breaded chicken, mac 'n cheese, and a salad.

Now, Trey's finishing some work while KC and I relax after our busy day :)

We don't have school AGAIN tomorrow, so now I'm brainstorming what I need to get done tomorrow on Snow Day Numero Dos!

Wedding Extravaganza

This weekend, my friend from high school, Katie Taglione, got married, and she asked me to be a bridesmaid in her wedding. It was a lot of fun, espeically, to get to hang out with her because she now lives in Orlando with her husband. We spent the day getting our hair and make up done while just hanging out by relaxing and talking.

The wedding was beautiful and Katie looked gorgeous! It was very fun to see old high school friends at the wedding- two of whom flew in from LA to be there!

High School friends
L to R: Sarah Tierney Niyogi, Ashley Tullier, me, Kellyn Dunn, Alyssa Aucoin, Katie Taglione Mallette, Katie Lane Mallette, Elizabeth Price, Kim Raschke

If you noticed in the names, there are now two Katie Mallettes in our high school group. Katie Lane met Jason who has a twin brother, Jon. Katie Lane married Jason last April, and now Katie Taglione is married to Jon. We've decided they will forever be known to us by their maiden names because it's too confusing! But it's kind of neat at the same time :)

Me and Katie Lane Mallette

She was the maid of honor. Katie and I have been good friends, as well, for a long time. It was fun to get to spend this time with her, as well.

Trey and I. I think it's a good picture!

30 Weeks!!!

I can't believe that in 10 weeks or less our little guy will be here! The past 30 weeks have flown by! A little bit of how we're both progressing:
  • He moves all of the time now. He's most active at night, and when I lay down to go to sleep he moves a lot. I feel his little limbs all over the place.
  • He loves the right hand side of my belly, and he can usually be found right up under my rib. This makes it hard to bend over at times, but it doesn't hurt.
  • I think his feet are up and his head is down because I feel the most movement right up under my ribs where it feels like pokes.
  • His heart beat at the doctor's office has been a steady 150 each time.
  • We're now going every two weeks which makes me feel like these 10 weeks will go by even faster.
  • Luckily, he does allow me to sleep at night. I'll wake up, but I do get a good night's rest still.
  • The only thing that wakes me lately is a leg cramp in my right leg. I've found yoga helps this ALOT, but it still happens regularly and it's painful.
  • I'm thirsty constantly.
  • I don't really crave anything in particular, but I definitely like something sweet every night. I've had a couple of scoops of Happy Tracks Blue Bell ice cream each night. It's weird because that's the only kind I want!
  • I'm beginning to get tired at night, and I like to be in bed around 9.
  • I'm still going for walks and doing my pre-natal yoga on a regular basis. I do feel they've both helped not to have too many pains. I'd highly recommend them!
That's about all I can think of at this point. Overall, things are going well. I'm hoping that continues! I'm trying to do as much as I can now while I'm still relatively comfortable. I know that won't be the case soon. Trey and I have been enjoying dinners out and the occasional movie. We start our child birth and other baby care classes in February, so there are exciting times ahead and I just know it's going to go by so fast!!

Let the Festivities Begin

My sweet, wonderful college roommates threw me my first baby shower!

We decided to do it in Houston. I got to see some Houston friends that I don't see very often and some of Trey's family was able to come which was very fun! His Aunt Judith and cousin Taylor came from Hempstead, his Aunt Daryl, cousin Jeanne and her daughter Riley came from San Antonio, and then, of course, his mom got to come from Alice! Lauren, his sister, lives in Houston which made it super easy for her to be there. We felt so honored that family drove in to be with us on this special day :)

Beginning to open presents. He got many cute outfits!!

Riley was a big help with this one. It was a play mat, and she loved it!

Reading the book Christy got for him. I can't wait to actually read to him, but I'm sure he was listening :)

All of the Delta Gammas who were able to come. So fun to see everyone and catch up!!
(L to R: Christy Havel, Emily Granath, Alicia Lauve, Me, Layla Baughn, and Erin Davis)

When I got home, I took a few more pictures of his loot.

Trey's parents, Grandma and Jeep, gave him his carseat, so now we can bring him from the hospital :)

The hostesses, Alicia, Emily, Erin, and Jacki, gave him his play mat. Look who else is enjoying it....

His Aunt Lauren and Uncle Jason got him his pack 'n play. Now he can at least travel and still have some place to sleep!

My mom got him the puppy on the right. It's similar to the puppy I had as a baby and LOVED, so hopefully he'll love his.

One of the most thoughtful presents was this picture from Daryl. It's of Trey's grandfather and great-grandmother. It's such a sweet picture. We'll find a special place in the nursery for this one.

Thanks to everyone, he has an even more full closet! We got the Baby Bjorn from the Howerton cousins and Trey's aunt- it's hanging on the right. That'll be fun to use :)

The morning after the shower, the hostesses and their significant others (minus Erin because she and baby Kelcie were on their way back to Ft Worth) had breakfast.

Thank you sweet friends for everything! I had a great time!

Nursery, Phase 1

After coming home from New York and having a wonderful Christmas with both sets of families, Project Getting Ready for Baby officially began.

We had decided, after some debate, to convert this room:
into the nursery.

As you can see, it's over-ridden with junk. Over the past three years, this room became the catch-all, and it served its purpose well until now.

We cleaned out, moved the furniture, and created quite a garage sale pile in the process.

Once the room was empty, Trey started painting! He did such a good job. He bought the low fumes paint that cost way too much. He spent so much time prepping the room by stripping all the old caulking around the room and re-caulking everything. He patched all the nail holes and a crack in the wall by the closet. He even took time to clean the window, and since we have old storm windows, that was quite a chore. He even painted the closet for me-so sweet. He ended by painting the trim and the baseboards.

Once we got it painted, we had to put the crib together! At this point, this is what we have.

I don't remember the name of the paint color, but I think it turned out really well. The crib is a cherry finish, and it converts later if we want to do that. Right now, a changing pad is in there (thanks to Kristin and Tyson Wallis!), but a mattress is coming soon. Obviously, we need the rest of the furnishings, but we're working on that. I think my mom is going to make some curtains, as well. Hopefully, phase 2 will be published shortly!

We put the teddy bear we bought baby boy at FAO Schwartz in the crib along with a little doggy snuggly that my mom bought him for Christmas.

We also spent some time putting the things we do have for him into his closet. It was nice to get all of his stuff out of our room and into his.

For now, we're storing his clothes in the sweater storage hanger. I think I'll leave it in there for blankets, onesies, etc. His little hoodie that Lauren and Jason gave us looks pretty cute hanging there. You can see some of our jackets on the left. Those will have to stay for now because we don't have any other closet room, and we figured he won't need the whole closet for a long time. On the top shelf we have a little bear pull toy for him, an elephant bank that Katie gave us, and a ceramic school bus that was in Trey's room when he was little.

Hopefully, we'll have more to put into his closet after the first shower this weekend!! It'll be very fun, and I'm excited to see my old college roommates and family!

This little guy will be here before we know it, and I'm excited to see him in there finally!

New York, New York

One of the things Trey and I love to do is travel together. Now that the little one is on the way, we foresee this hobby being in serious jeopardy for many years to come. We decided that Christmas break would be a perfect time for one last, nice getaway before the craziness ensues.

We threw around going to a beach for some fun in the sun...

... and while that's beautiful and all, we figured we could do this type of thing more easily with a kid or two in tow.

But this....
... would not happen in the next few years, especially at Christmas time.
The holidays will be busy and we'll want to be with family, so we figured New York, here we come!

We walked 5th Ave and took in all the beautiful window scenes and Christmas decorations.

Went to the Met and enjoyed a full day of culture.
Took a walk through Central Park.
Watched the ice skaters.

Went to the Statue of Liberty.
Toured the building immigrants came to on Ellis Island.
And had a great time overall just the two of us!!

It's Beginning to Feel A Lot Like Christmas

I Love Christmas!

Our tree doesn't look as bright as it is because of our camera and the lighting, but I accidentally put indoor/ outdoor lights on the tree. We had used those once to put lights on our house, but then we figured out that was a lot of trouble, so that doesn't happen anymore. It also doesn't help that we have no outdoor outlets and running extension cords just feels ridiculous. But, all in all, I think our tree looks pretty good. It's a hodge podge of ornaments we've bought over the past few years and others that our parents have given us.

Here's a picture of the whole dining room with my favorite table runner!

My newest Christmas decor addition is the BELIEVE sign. I bought it at a craft show thing up at Pearce High School. Cute, huh? Next year, I think we'll get different stockings because then we'll need three!

Baby boy has gotten some gifts for this year! It's really just little things Trey and I have started to buy, but that's ok.

When we found out he was a boy, we went and bought him his first outfit.

It may look like it's huge, but it's only 3-6 months. I think he'll look very cute in it :) We may have to wait a bit, but it'll be worth it!

We also bought the bedding for the nursery!
The quilt came in the mail on Tuesday, and I'm very happy with it. I love how it has a primary color base, but it really has all different colors on it. I like not having to be pinned down by something.

Excuse our unmade bed in the picture and focus on the quilt cuteness!

Here's a pic of the bottom part.

We ordered the bumper, sheet, and dust ruffle, but it's on back order until January.
You can find a picture of it at Pottery Barn Kids It's super cute, too.
We'll paint the room in January, probably, and choose a paint color over break. We'll probably go for something neutral since there's a lot of color in the bedding. I'm thinking something dark tan or a light mocha at this point.

The to-do list is getting longer, and I'm trying not to freak out, so let's hope it all gets done in the next 17 weeks. The bedding is progress, but it's not much! Hopefully, next time I blog I will have more to report!
