Luke's First Birthday Party

We are so fortunate to have wonderful family and friends who came to help us celebrate our little man's first birthday! I thought the party went really well, and I even had a great time with everyone. Unfortunately, Luke did not feel great at his party and even got sick right after, but he still gave us some good Lukie smiles at times.
Eating breakfast the morning of the party. He's throwing out a pretty good skeptical face.
He took a long morning nap, and know he's all dressed in his party overalls!
He's ready to greet all of his guests.

Luke's first birthday cupcakes! I made blue velvet cupcakes with cream cheese icing.
We hung balloons for a little pizazz and then had his month pictures up under neath. It was neat to see his progression through the year.

The spread. I do think it all tasted pretty good :)

I made this banner with scrapbook paper and die cut letters that my mom did at school. We still have it up :)

People hanging and eating. We hung balloons above the food, too, for a little festive flair.
Singing happy birthday to our 1 year old!
Kind of tasting it.

I cut it up for him, but he still found the candle more interesting.

Trey and I are laughing about his lack of participation in eating his cupcake. Oh well!

Opening presents

Sunglasses! How cute!

He didn't feel too bad. He still wanted to throw the tissue paper.

Happy Birthday, Luke! We love you!

Eleanor and Olivia's First Birthday

Our dear friends, Tyson and Kristin Wallis, have twin daughters who are just three weeks older than Luke. We went down to Houston to celebrate their first birthday party. We enjoyed the party and festivities even though Tyson couldn't be with us to celebrate. I think he would have approved whole- heartedly with the party; Kristin did a great job!

Everyone hung out down by the pool as the festivities were beginning.

Elle and Luke got to ride around in style in the wagon.
Elle and Luke also got some snacks as they rode. Elle was nice enough to let Luke try out her birthday present.

Elle and Liv with their cakes.

Elle wasn't thrilled with her party hat, but they both look very cute.

Trey and I. not bad.

Corinne and Dave

Luke found a cool ball thing to play with inside.

We stayed the weekend with Lauren and Jason which was fun. We got to hang out with them during the day on Saturday before we headed out to the party. It was good to see them, as always. :)
Lauren and Luke chilling together on the couch. They're pretty cute, huh?

March Madness

This month has been CrAzY!

It feels like every weekend there's been tons to do or things going on, so I thought I'd condense it down and give a quick recap on some of the fun from this month.

The first weekend of the month, we celebrated both grandma's birthdays.
We sent Grandma Jackson a great picture with a happy birthday sign, but until I figure out how to get photos off my iPhone, there it will stay.
We did go out to dinner for my mom's birthday to a restaurant called Arcodoro & Pomodoro. We decided to try something new since it was her 60th! :) Both Trey and I got to go and we had our first non-family member babysit Luke. John had to work, so Susan came with us, and it was a great time. I forgot my camera at dinner, so I have no pictures from then, but we had everyone over for brunch the next day, so we got some good pictures from that.

Susan gave mom a thing to collect wine corks in. Pretty cute.

Dad gave her a mega-sewing machine! Like it came with its own case. It's pretty sweet.

Luke got dressed up for the occasion.

Birthday sponge cake. It's an old family recipe. You put berries on top, and it's super yummy.

Luke enjoying the scenery and his fingers.

Luke sent his grandmas finger painting for their birthdays. It was fun to make, but a little messy.
Here's proof.

The very next weekend Trey and I celebrated our 5 year anniversary by going out to dinner. We looked pretty good, but I forgot to take a picture. again.

This past weekend we went to the arboretum for Dallas Blooms. Amy and Travis came with us, and we grabbed burgers afterwards at Maple & Motor which was delicious.
Beautiful main garden at the front. There's a wedding set up in the background.

Gorgeous!

Not sure what I'm doing, or what was so funny.

We had a great time this month, and it's not even over yet! We're going to Houston this weekend for Eleanor and Olivia Wallis's first birthday party. We'll stay with Lauren and Jason (who were also here for a night a couple of weeks ago). Then we're on to first birthday celebrations!!

Go Me

I don't really post much about myself on here- it's pretty much all about the little man, but I did hit a milestone the other day I wanted to share.

I ran my first 5k post baby! I did it with a girlfriend of mine, and it was a run that benefited the local high school. We had a great time, and it was very fun to run with someone again. I really miss that, and I need to do it more. I always tell people it's better therapy than sitting on someone's couch. It does wonders for you! My time wasn't anything spectacular, but I'm not big on running fast anyway.

It feels good to be back in the groove, and I'm about to go look up another 5k for us to run next month :)

And because this blog can't exist without a mention of little man... his latest trick is pretty cute. He doesn't say 'mama' yet, but if Trey says, "Give mama a hug." He leans over and puts his arms around my neck and gives me a real hug. The notorious Luke hug that's better than any hug out there. I think that's better than saying 'mama', don't you think?

11 months

Well, we're only one month away from the big 1 year old birthday!

Luke's doing great this month.
  • We've got teeth! He is cutting teeth like crazy. He has 5 now! And I think he's working on another. These things are literally popping up weekly right now, and it's pretty crazy.
  • He's moved into 12 month clothes but can still fit into some of his 9 month clothes. His 12 month clothes just fit a little better than the others.
  • He's still in size 3 diapers and doing great in his cloth ones. We still make both work.
  • He's eating pretty well. He still loves fruit A LOT! That's pretty much what he'll eat no matter what. He's been bad about eating veggies on his own, so I've reverted back to baby food to get veggies in this little man. I've tried some different things with him like tofu, north kidney beans, and whole wheat pasta. He's not a huge fan of those, but I'll keep trying :) He has tried graham crackers, baked cheetos, cheddar bunnies, and mum mums for snacks, and he pretty much loves all of those. He also enjoyes toast, waffles, and eggs for breakfast.
  • He's pushing his walker while standing behind it. I posted that video a few days ago. He's gotten quite a bit better and will sometimes go over to it and start to use it on his own. He's also cruising a little bit along the couch but not very much. A few times, he's been able to balance on his legs by himself. I don't think he'll be walking by his first birthday, but he's moving that way. I'm ok with him crawling right now because once he can walk, then he'll start running!
  • He loves to see dogs and cats. We meet many people at the park because Luke wants to go see the doggy. We think we'll take him to the zoo for his first birthday which I think will involve lots of waves and Hi, Hi.
  • He goes to bed between 6:30 and 7 most nights. We're still struggling to get him to sleep in the early morning hours. He does great through the night but after about 4 am, it's kind of a crap shoot. Some nights are great and others are horrendous. I'm hoping this isn't a battle we'll have forever.
  • He's still taking two naps. The first nap, around 9, is getting shorter. Sometimes it's only about 30 minutes. The afternoon nap, around 1, can be about an hour up to 2-2 1/2, just depending. He can skip the first nap and be ok which is good, but I don't let him do that very often.
  • Just the other day he decided to start rolling around on the floor. He'll lay down and roll onto his back and then onto his front and so on. It's pretty funny. He was never good at rolling from his front to back, so it seems he's perfected this finally and can't get enough! He's a little late, but oh well.
  • He also had his first baby sitter that wasn't a family member. She just put him down and then sat in the house while he slept, but it counts. He loved her, and he really seemed to love her five year old son who came with her. Luke thought he was hilarious.
  • He's learned to pull up to the dishwasher and pull things out. His favorite item is when he gets ahold of the wooden spoon. He'll carry that thing everywhere with him until I can finally pry it out of his little hands.
  • He's also learned to pull up on the screen door to look outside which is really cute.
Now for pictures!!

This one was just too cute not to post.

A picture of me and my baby boy. I love him!
