I Love Him

Somehow, we gave him the nickname, "Froggy Jesus", during this dry off time.

Why am I so cute? I just don't know.

Fourth of July

We went to the lake house for the Fourth of July!
Our neighborhood had a parade that day. I use the word parade loosely- it was people who live there who dress up different motorized vehicles and go around throwing candy. It was cute and fun to watch.

This crazy guy is a good example.

My dad participated by throwing a little fourth of July cheer on to his four wheeler.

Luke is super excited because he caught a piece of candy! Too bad he can't eat it.

We caught some other fun pictures over the weekend.

Frowny face! It's the cutest sad face ever.

Luke and me. I promise he likes me :)

A Quarter of a Year

3 Months Old!
July 2, 2011

I just had to post this one because the bear looks so freaky. It's as if he's saying, "Luke, you're my friend," in a scary voice.

Milestones this month:
  • Belly laughs
  • Coos at us
  • Sucks on his fingers- usually the pointer and middle finger together
  • Sings a sleepy 'song' when he's tired
  • Loves to be rocked to sleep
  • Sleeps in his crib for all naps and at night!
  • Sleeping at night is still somewhat erratic- some nights he's up once sometime between 3 and 4:30, some nights he'll sleep until the morning
  • Naps are short right now. We're happy if he takes an hour long nap. His usual is 30 minutes.
  • Grabs at toys and put them in his mouth. Here's documentation:
  • Wears size one diapers
  • Wears 0-3 month clothes but we'll quickly need 3-6 month old pajamas
  • Either doesn't like his car seat or car rides very much. He usually cries at some point during a car ride.
  • Enjoys going for a ride in his stroller. He can now ride in the stroller without the car seat attachment. I put the head pad in for a little extra support because his head can still be a little wobbly, but we'll probably stop using that soon.
  • Does a bridge pose when he's on his back, especially during diaper changes.
  • Kicking and moving his arms around a lot! I've gotten a couple of hands to the eyes.
  • Can roll up onto his side but still doesn't go all the way over.
  • Is much better with tummy time but still doesn't tolerate it for long. This month's goal is to do more of it!
  • Loves to hang out on his playmat and look up at the toys above him.
  • Has a killer grip now- it's amazing how strong babies become so quickly!
  • He's still a good eater. He will go anywhere from 2-4 hours between feedings. He dives right in. So far, I haven't had to give him any formula.
  • He finally took a bottle from me! I was so proud :)
  • He's really good at holding his head up.
  • His eye sight his so much better! He can really see things around him now which makes him a bit distracted at times.
  • Overall, we're seeing more and more of his personality which makes being around him more and more fun! He's definitely laid back and very sweet with a good sense of humor, but he can also be a bit stubborn. We're excited to get to know him more and more as the days go by!

The Making of a Mobile

I never found a mobile I liked at any of the stores. They all seemed cheesy and over-priced to me. I started looking on etsy.com to see if there was one on there. I found some that were definitely not cheesy, but they were even more over-priced.

I found this one on etsy that I really liked and thought I could replicate.
Since Luke's nursery is alphabet and we already made the other book art, I thought it fit nicely in our theme.

So.. I took Luke on a quick trip to Half Price Books and purchased Curious George for $2.83.

I used the exacto knife to cut out all of the pages. Before doing this, Trey warned me to be careful since an exacto knife was the number one cause of their work place accidents. I told him I wasn't one of his employees.

The hot glue gun worked nicely to form the pages into tear drops. I then glued them together inside the cover.

Here's the view Luke will get from his crib. I think he'll like it.

The final product hung above his crib.

Sorry for the low light picture. I had to snap it during nap time.

It's not quite as pretty as the one on etsy, but I think I did a pretty good job. I mean, I did get it done over three naptimes and a shopping trip with a two month old. And I didn't pay $72.

Alice, TX, America

A recap of Luke's first trip to Alice.

Chatting with Grandma and Grandpa.

Chewing on Grandpa's finger.

Spending time with Great Grandma.

Rocking to sleep with Great Grandpa.

Luke loved being in Alice!
Maybe because there was always someone available to rock him to sleep and then let him sleep on them. He keeps asking to go back!
