3 Weeks Old

I couldn't decide which picture I liked better, so I just used both!

Today, Luke took a ride in the car to the mall and then Buy Buy Baby where Trey stayed in the car with him while I ran in to quickly pick up some items. He has yet to have a real outing, but we're a little hesitant right now to really take him out because he's still feeding pretty close together and he can't take a lot of outside noise right now. He gets overstimulated pretty quickly which leads to an unhappy baby. I'm hoping in the next couple of weeks we'll be able to start getting out, though, because I'm going house crazy!

I'll post Easter pics tomorrow. There's no egg hunt or easter baskets for him this year, but he's got a cute outfit to wear.

We put it on him to 'try it out' for his ride around town today. Here's a sneak peek:
Super Cute :)
There will be better pics of it tomorrow :)

Two Weeks Old

Luke at two weeks old!

We went to the doctor yesterday for his two week appointment.
He weighed 8 lbs. 12 oz. which makes him almost a pound over his birth weight!
He's in the 50th percentile for weight.
He's now 20 1/8 inches tall. He's grown a pretty good amount!
He's also in the 50th percentile for height.

They also measured his head circumference, but I don't remember what that was.
I just know that he's in the 30th percentile for head size. Good thing we know intelligence is not proportional to how big your head is!

He also had to get his heel pricked again. They send the blood samples to the state where they do testing for different things- what exactly, I'm not sure. I'm supposed to get the results back in a couple of weeks, so I'll know more then about that one.

He definitely did not like the heel prick at all, but he recovered very quickly. At the next appointment, he'll begin to get his immunizations. That appointment won't be very fun during or after. They gave me a list of all the possible side effects, and I have a feeling I'll need a drink at the end of that day! I don't think he'll feel very good after this next one.

Here he is napping today:
Don't mind the awkward outfit. He's wearing a 0-3 month onesie, but his pants are still newborn size. He's a little between sizes, so I ended up mixing a couple of different outfits. I need him to get a little longer to fit into 0-3 month outfits well. Right now, they're a little long on him. I have a feeling, though, that we'll be dealing with that issue for his entire life :)

Also, we got the final pictures back from our professional photo shoot session we did the week he was born.
Here's the link to see them!

We can print all the photos easily, so if you want one, we can easily get it printed.
Enjoy them!

Home Sweet Home

Luke on his way home :)

We've had Luke home for a little over a week so far and he's already changed so much!

What he's been up to:
  • Last Friday at the doctor, he weighed 7 lbs 11.5 oz. I'm thinking that he's already gained back up to his birth weight, but we won't know for sure until next week when we go back.
  • He is a great eater! He knows when he's hungry for sure. He tries to latch himself on already, but he usually misses so he still needs help, but it's funny to watch.
  • He'll go four hours between some feedings- usually one long stretch during the day and one longer stretch at night. The other times he likes to eat about 2 to 2.5 hours apart.
  • I need to get a picture of the face he makes when he's done feeding- it's pretty cute. It's this little frowny face.
  • He moans and makes little noises in his sleep.
  • His startle reflex is really good! He's always flailing his arms in his sleep when he hears a noise on the TV or something.
  • He makes this grunt noise when he doesn't want to do something.
  • For the most part, he's really laid back. He just hangs back and watches things.
  • When we do tummy time, he can turn his head from one side to the other. The nurse even commented that he's very strong!
  • We like to make his hair kind of poofy after his bath. We want it to looks like Trey's :)
  • He's already scratched himself twice on his cheek and bled a little. I've got to file his nails more often!
  • I'm trying to capture on film all of his funny faces he makes- they're pretty cute!
  • We just LOVE him! He's wonderful and perfect!
First Bath at home!

Sleeping sweetly in his cradle. I think the next day, though, we moved him to his crib. Such a big boy already!

So cute in his jeans!

Love it! Thanks to Dave and Corinne for this one :)

His name on his butt! So cute!

Luke Henry

Luke Henry Jackson
April 2, 2011

A week ago today I decided to go for a short walk before dinner and little did I know that walk would change everything.

I'm pretty sure it sent me into a regular labor pattern and just a few hours later, our little boy was born!

Luke came into this world at 4:46 am on April 2, 2011. He weighed 7 lbs. 14 oz. and was 19 3/4 inches long.

This week has seemed so long! It's been a week of big changes in our lives, but it's also been a wonderful week that I will always look back on with a smile. Not only did Luke arrive, but three days later, I turned 30. I feel like I've had a week of milestones!

My last picture pregnant. We had just arrived in labor and delivery. Very soon after this, they told us we were being admitted and we knew for sure we'd have a baby that night!

Luke right after he was born. The nurses had to work on him a little bit after birth because he had a ton of fluid in his stomach. He is a really good sucker :)

Our little family. Luke's one day old in this picture.

Nursery!

The nursery is ready and waiting!

The crib will eventually have his name on the wall above it, but we're waiting until after he's born to do that part.

I love the chair we got! It's super comfortable and just the right size for me. His bookshelf is overflowing! We have more books stashed in the den, even.

This part of the room is more interesting.
For one, that's not the dresser we'll have forever. It's on loan to us from the company because they messed up our order and our real dresser won't be in until mid April. We're borrowing this one for the time being so we would have a place to put the changing pad.

The pictures above the dresser were made by Trey and me! We took old books and cut a page out of them, then mounted the pictures in frame mats, and attached ribbon on them for hanging. We think they came out super cute! It adds a nice punch of color, and we thought adventure stories fit with the alphabet bedding and was good for a boy's room. Plus, this was much more inexpensive than other wall decor we'd been finding. The Dick Tracy sign is a tin sign we found at an antiques store, and we thought it fit the adventure story theme, so we decided to add it to the wall.

Here's a closer pic that shows which books each picture is from:
And here are the books we got them from:

I love how everything's turned out. We just did what we like and it all came together just fine! I think our adventure story wall is great, too! We'll be able to use those pictures for a while, and it adds a personal touch.

We're very ready for him- whenever he decides to come!

38 Weeks: We're Ready and Counting

We're two weeks away from our due date! At this point, something could happen at any moment, but I'm not holding my breath. At our last doctor's appointment, she said things we're starting to move forward but there was no dilation and his head hasn't moved down yet. We got again tomorrow, so we'll see if there's more progress! The thing is there's no way to know, even today with all of our advanced medical care, so I've spent spring break making sure everything is ready just in case. If he doesn't choose to appear before his due date, then she said we would schedule for induction at 41 weeks which would make the latest day his birthday could be is April 8, 2011. At least I know that we'll either have a baby or he'll be on his way in less than three weeks!

A few updates:
  • I feel pretty good on a regular basis. The swelling is off and on and mostly still in my feet or ankles.
  • I'm starting to ache more and more. My pelvis is obviously bearing a lot more weight because it just aches most of the time.
  • He moves constantly. It's more usual for him to be moving than to be still.
  • I'm sleeping pretty good for the most part. Sometimes I just wake up and can't fall back to sleep. It's not usually due to being uncomfortable but by things running through my head constantly. There's a lot to think about right now!
  • For the last thing, the nursery is ready! I'm putting pictures in a separate blog post.
Just for fun:
Trey and our first baby. I'm not sure she's ready for the change!

Thursday, March 17, 2011

I've been meaning to post this for a while, but I hadn't gotten a chance to take photos. Finally, today's the day!

About a month ago, we traded in the Bug for a more family-friendly car.

Introducing my new car!
A Subaru Outback

I'm pretty happy with it thus far. It rides really nicely, gets great gas mileage, has quite a bit of storage in the back, and has plenty of room in the backseat.

Trey made me very happy by opting for the premium model which is the only model in which they have leather seats. I think we'll be very happy with the leather seats once the child is throwing a sippy cup of something across the backseat. Another thing I have that I didn't know if I'd like or not is bluetooth, but it's actually really great. It's nice to talk on the phone wirelessly in the car. I like the look of the inside overall - functional yet sleek.

Baby boy even already has his new digs ready to go in the backseat. And plenty of room for it too! We didn't have to put the seats way forward to fit the seat in there which we did have to do with other cars. I think he'll love to ride in the car, not that he has any other choice in vehicle. I figure if I like it, he'll love it! Well... maybe.
